An educational and interdisciplinary comparison on a territory such as Castel Volturno represents, for the students in the last year of the Master’s Program in Architecture 5UE, an important state of awareness, both from a design and professional point of view, and in the development of a particular sensitivity towards some places.The publication collects the results of the work carried out during the 2018-2019 academic year, highlighting the powerful laboratory character that the survey area required. The structure of the book reflects, in fact, the experimental work carried out, starting with the exploration of some preliminary themes and methods, examined in the section “Essays”; continuing through the study of the “transepts” and the interaction with the people who inhabit these places; finally, working on assembling and defining a “synthesis” of data and investigations through the design proposals, described in the section “Projects”. Proposals not intended as definitive outcomes and in conclusive terms, but as a set of inputs, discoveries, revelations and, therefore, continuously subjected to updating and mutation.Scenarios of new possible meanings and new transformations are, therefore, the result of this work, composed of different levels of analysis linked to the multiple layers of “sensitivity” towards the places and to the design experimentation, deepened in relation to all levels, details, aspects that are connected to it. Un confronto didattico e interdisciplinare su un territorio come Castel Volturno rappresenta, per gli studenti all’ultimo anno del corso di studi in Architettura 5UE, una presa di coscienza importante, sia dal punto di vista progettuale e professionale, che nello sviluppo di una particolare sensibilità nei confronti di alcuni luoghi.La pubblicazione raccoglie gli esiti del lavoro svolto nell’arco dell’anno accademico 2018-2019, ponendo in evidenza il carattere fortemente laboratoriale che il territorio di indagine ha richiesto. La struttura del libro rispecchia, infatti, il lavoro sperimentale svolto, a partire dall’esplorazione di alcuni temi e metodi preliminari, esaminati nella sezione “Saggi”; proseguendo attraverso lo studio dei “transetti” e l’interazione con le persone che abitano questi luoghi; lavorando, infine, alla messa a sistema e ad una “sintesi” delle informazioni e delle indagini effettuate nelle proposte progettuali, descritte nella sezione “Progetti”. Proposte progettuali non intese come esiti definitivi e in termini conclusivi, ma come insieme di input, scoperte, rivelazioni e, pertanto, continuamente sottoposte ad aggiornamento e mutazione.Scenari di nuovi possibili significati e di nuove trasformazioni sono, dunque, il risultato di questo lavoro, composto da diversi livelli di approfondimento legati ai molteplici strati di “sensibilizzazione” verso i luoghi e alla sperimentazione progettuale, approfondita rispetto a tutti livelli, dettagli, aspetti ad essa connessi.

The present research on the theme of the design of furniture components starts from the didactic experience carried out within a Design Drawing Laboratory. The aim of the course is to apply the themes and methods related to representation and, at the same time, develop the graphic processing skills of each student. The text is divided into four sections: drawing as a science of representation, drawing as analysis, drawing as a communication tool, drawing as a project. Each single theme is then divided into a theoretical part and a corresponding practical part with one or more exercises.

The exhibition at Villa La Quiete focuses on three important Renaissance sculptures, which had never been exposed to the public before. On this occasion, the works were carefully restored, continuing on the path of the previous restauration of the Villa's artistic heritage at the hands of the University of Florence; the new restoration was supported by the Terna group, whose liberal donation helped restore one of the works on display, namely the beautiful in stucco Madonna with Child from Lorenzo Ghiberti's workshop. This work comes with a rare terracotta piece of a Madonna with Child, by one of Donatello's followers, and a Christ, the Saviour, in painted terracotta as well, made by the artist Agnolo di Polo, who trained in Andrea Verrocchio's workshop. The three sculptures are a part of the oldest core of the Villa's collections, and represent a relevant example of the refined production of the multifaceted workshops of the Renaissance in Florence.
